Food Prep Success Your Way

I recently was talking to a friend and it came up that I previously owned a food preparation company (anyone remember Fit ‘n Simple Foods??).

It looked something like this:

She immediately responded, “Oh I could never do that. That takes too much time.” And she’s not wrong! It IS time consuming to prepare individual meals with specific weights of food for each day.

…but that’s not how I food prep for myself. It wouldn’t help me succeed. There are reasonable methods and balance I want to share with you that works for me, and the loved ones I take care of in my life.

My food prep NOW looks something like this:

First, I make sure to have roasted vegetables at the ready. Here we have roasted carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and sweet potatoes. While all of those savory goodies were being roasted, I sautéed green beans in some bacon fat and finished it off with a drizzle of maple syrup.

Second, I make sure to have 1-2 protein sources. Not pictured here, but I would have grilled or oven-baked some chicken in addition to the centerpiece above, which is a shepherd’s pie (I’ll spell out those details in a subsequent blog post).

Lastly, I make sure to have some fun add-ins. If it’s a busy week, that means buying a tub of hummus (or 2 if they’re on sale, and freeze one. It saves well in the freezer!) or making some homemade pesto. You can head to the recipe for a delicious, wallet-friendly pesto recipe here. I also might stock up on some Primal Kitchen dressings to drizzle over my roasted veggies or spinach salad.

Stick to these 3 simple starter steps and you’ll see a massive improvement in your readiness and ability to make better choices for to empower your health journey.

Have patience with yourself as you try it the first couple of times. You’ll find that you fall into a rhythm with each time you food prep, and your time efficiency will greatly improve.

Let me know what you try! Do you have any favorite food prep staples?

Thrive on, my friends!
