Homemade House Dressing

I’ve been homemaking quite a few sauces recently and wanted to share them. I had posted about this on my instagram eons ago and thought I’d share it since it’s such a good one! I’ll follow up with an awesome ranch and BBQ sauce as well.

The oils we consume can either help to heal our gut, brain, and organs, or do the opposite: damage them.

Fat “do’s and don’ts” are different everywhere you turn. Should you eat no fats? Some fats? Only fats?? Should I just drink fat? Rub myself down in fat??

The important factor in the world of fats is WHICH fats you’re consuming. The most abundant fats we see in the foods we consume today are hydrogenate fats and trans fats.

“Wait, Jac! I thought the FDA did away with trans fats?!” Well, they did. On paper. Lemme esplain’…

  1. Hydrogenated fats are found in canola, safflower, vegetable, and other seed oils. Hydrogenation is fancy for “We chemically broke this oil down to make it shelf stable and harder for your body to process. It’s cheaper for us, so sucks to be you!”
  2. The FDA is deceitful. Their rules allow a product to have <0.5g PER SERVING, and still list it as “0g trans fats”. So, say you enjoy some chips out of a bag from your pantry. One serving is 9 chips. Who eats 9 chips? …no one in my family. In fact, bags of chips go so fast I buy my own bags to keep in a secret drawer and eat when no one is looking. Otherwise the whole bag is gone once it’s popped. And just like that you’ve racked up 1g of trans fat. The FDA then creates a daily consumption limit of 2g of trans fat per day – and just like that, they’ve set us up to fail.

To save a huge buck on salad dressings that are made with nourishing oils, without additives, I homemake them. You’d be shocked how easy it is too:

What to Add

  • 2/3C extra virgin olive oil (or avocado oil if you don’t like the taste of olive oil)
  • 1/4C maple syrup or honey
  • 2T stone ground ustard
  • 2T apple cider vinegar
  • 1T coconut aminos (a soy-free substitue for soy sauce)
  • 1T oregano
  • 1t salt
  • 1/2t pepper

How to Make It

Shake like mad and tighten your abs while you do it. It will emulsify and thicken the dressing because of the acid and fat combo.

And you’ll get an ab workout. 🙂
