Sick Season Survival
Sick season is closer than you think and getting yourself and your family ready for the bugs that will surely assault your home is critical! Since becoming a mom and having a family to take care of, prepping for sick season has taken a lot more work. It seemed like as a single person, I could simply up my water intake, throw in a zinc and vitamin C supplement, and sip on some bone broth to keep well.
Now it’s a teensy bit more complicated! I’ve learned quite a lot (through a painful learning curve) what works for a family as far as implementing holistic and effective approaches to illnesses. I feel like as a single woman (a mere two years ago), it was a lot easier to dial in my nutrition, stock up on a couple vitamins, and move outside. The learning curve has been rough and I want to take that off your plate!
That’s why I want to share it with you in a simple 3-step process. I’m always looking to reduce the workload of healthy living and share it with my friends and community. What I want to share is a combination of what I’ve learned through 11 years of nursing, nutritional school, and life.
This will be a 3 part series of blog posts that breaks down what I know to be the most important elements in fighting seasonal illnesses and how my family and I implement them to reduce the amount of times we are laid up on the couch with a box of tissues. I’ll list some of my go-to health-bolstering recipes and the products I have in my house. It’s what has worked for me and my family!
These simple prep tips can help your family to stay well during the season of colds, stomach bugs, flu, and so much more! Strong immune strength comes from nutrition & hydration, sun exposure, and the right supplements on hand.
The Top Three Priorities
1.
2.
3.
Cook more whole foods at home, make sure you have your water bottles (and hold each other accountable!), and get 15 minutes of sun (or more) a day.
Stock up on supplements and medications. There’s nothing like getting hit with a bug and not having both traditional and holistic meds and supplements on board. I’ll go over my go-to medicine cabinet in Sick Season Survival blog post 2.
Prepare your equipment. Blog post 3 will review my home equipment and where I get it. Do I have my nebulizer? A pulse ox? A working thermometer? A humidifier, diffuser, and neti pot? What about rice bags for aches and pains? These all play important roles in getting better faster and avoiding the Emergency Room!
These strategies will help significantly reduce the amount of sickness your family experiences in the upcoming sick season! Make sure to check out the next three posts to find specific strategies to implement for your life and your family’s wellness.
