Simple Honey Homemade Granola
We are granola fiends at Reed Ranch. We snack on it (a little too much, I might add), sprinkle our yogurt with it, pair it with a crisp apple, or eat it as a late night snack with a splash of almond milk while taking a bath (…oh, is that just me?). The store bought granola does a decent job if you pick the right brands and are in a pinch, my remarkably-priced favorite is pictured below) but there is nothing like toasting up your own granola and packing it with all the nutrients and healthy fats you want. Not only that, those store bought granola’s are usually priced so high, it seems they want you to sacrifice your right arm for less than a pound!
The key to a good granola is to keep it simple and roast it low and slow(er) than you think. It gives it a deep flavor and also helps to make those nuts more tolerable for people who might have an oral allergy syndrome to nuts. Oral allergy syndrome is a common condition where the lips and tongue might get itchy or irritated after eating a certain food. It’s common with nuts!
Our favorite add-ins are chopped almonds, sunflower seeds, a touch of chia seeds, and dried cranberries. That pop of sweetness in the cranberries is phenomenal!
If you happen to be at Sam's Club, pick up my favorite trusted brand (pictured above). It does have added sugar, but is void of corn starch and gluten.
And the price can't be beat. It's $5.37 for 2lb of granola! Other comparable granolas run at astronomical prices from $8/lb, on up. Ridiculous; especially when it's so easy to make your own 🙂
